Environmental Farm Plan

The BC Agricultural Research & Development Corporation, in cooperation with the federal and provincial governments, encourages farmers to develop a plan to enhance the use of natural resources and reduce the possibility of accidental harm to soil, air, water, and biodiversity values.

Rainbow Greenhouses has been an active participant in the BC Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) Program.  Through this program, we reviewed our environmental stewardship practices and developed a plan to address environmental concerns through the adoption of Beneficial Management Practices (BMPs). These practices increase agricultural sustainability and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment.  As a result, for example, Rainbow Greenhouses was able to improve its water and nutrient management programs and also reduce its carbon dioxide emissions.

Supporting Local Education

Rainbow Greenhouses has spent many hours working with high school Agriculture students at Sardis Secondary School. Our Head Grower is also active in mentoring the teachers of the horticulture program in modern greenhouse techniques. Rainbow Greenhouses also supports local education through tours of our facility given to many local school students at elementary, secondary and university levels. Rainbow Greenhouses promotes education through its student bursary program supporting Kwantlen Polytechnic University School of Horticulture students.

Supporting the Agricultural Industry

Rainbow Greenhouses actively participates in its industry associations. We support efforts to promote agriculture by involvement on several boards and committees such as United Flower Growers, British Columbia Agriculture Commission, and Chilliwack Economic Partners Corporation.

Employment of Individuals with Disabilities

Rainbow Greenhouses recognizes that not all individuals have the same opportunities to succeed in life due to physical and/or mental challenges. We desire to help people with these challenges, and currently employ several such employees. This has been a very positive experience for the personal development of those employees. It has also had a positive impact on the morale of other employees as they contribute to the success of this program as co-workers.
